The ear cuff is 1-3/16" long by 11/32" wide.

The measurement of the die is 1" wide X 1-1/2" long X 1/4" thick.

These ear cuff designs are very versatile since they can also be used as other types of jewelry components. They can be dangled from ear wires or post.  You can make a bracelet by adding jump rings at both ends of several components and linking several together and then add a clasp.

The die includes guidelines for the placement of your metal on the die.  Use a piece of metal that is about 1-5/8" long by about 7/16" wide when pressing allowing the extra 1/8" to hang over the edge of the die.  This extra 1/8" provides a tab that aids in removing the pressing from the die after it has been pressed.  Scroll through the photos above to see the two photos that show the metal placement on the die.

Use 18-gauge metals:

The die provides an image that stands up on the surface of your copper, silver, or brass. To get a good image with a 20 ton press, it is necessary to lightly oil your die before each use.  For best results, use a hard steel pusher.  Press once, turn the die 180 degress and press again. Continue doing this until you are happy with the pressing. The back of your component will be mostly flat.  Scroll throught the photos above to see the back of our pressed component.

This impression die is made with heat-treated tool steel and is for hydraulic press use only.  It will work best with a press that is at least 20-tons.

The pressings in our photos were done using 18-gauge copper at 20 tons of pressure.  We used dead soft copper and did not need to anneal, but annealing might help if you are not sure if your metal is soft.

Your die will arrive lightly oiled with a lubricant called CorrosionX.  It can be found at most auto supply stores.  We highly recommend you use it or some kind of machine oil to protect your investment, especially if you live in a humid climate.  We use it to keep rust from forming on our steel pieces, dies, rolling mill rollers and other tools.  It also helps your silver or copper release from the die.
